Caring for Aging Skin
Aging is the fastest-growing area of facial treatment cosmetics. Nowadays people live longer and take better care of their health, and they want the way they look to portray their youthful outlook and overall state of good health.
We start aging as soon as we’re born and never stop until we die. That’s a fact. Yet, looking perpetually youthful is a high priority in society today, especially with images bombarding us from all directions. These images show movie stars, stage figures, and musicians who never seem to age. So it’s no surprise that people, especially women, want to look perfect even as every year highlights their imperfections more and more.
Skin ages because of exposure to sunlight and because of decreased hormones in the body. Hormones important for slowing down the aging process include estrogen, human growth hormone (HGH) and testosterone. Both UV light and reduced hormone production results in oxidation of the skin fibers, causing them to crisscross and form hollows and ridges. These crisscrosses are commonly known as wrinkles.
You can’t stop this from happening, because it’s a natural process. But you can slow it down. You have many options for doing this, from simple and cheap to complicated and expensive. Plastic surgery and medical options will do the job. But for most people, these are financially prohibitive, so they stick to cheaper solutions. These include eating right and exercising, which help greatly. But the most cost effective results come from using anti aging products.
Anti aging products are divided into two classes: oral products such as vitamins, minerals, and other food supplements; and topical treatments such as skin creams.
